It departs from Catalina Landing near Shoreline Village, a residential neighborhood in downtown Long Beach. Near the Pike and the Pacific Aquarium, it's on the main waterfront. San Diego, Los Angeles, and Orange counties are all convenient cities from which to reach the port. It takes about an hour and 45 minutes to drive from downtown San Diego to the port.
What is the ferry ride's duration?
In just an hour, you can travel from Long Beach to Catalina Island by ferry. The bus will drop you off in the main town of Avalon once you arrive on Catalina Island.
Carry-on luggage of normal size is included in the ticket price, but bikes and surfboards charge $700 each. The fee for some upgrades varies. There are many beautiful boutique hotels in the area, most of which are relatively small and intimate.
During a visit to Catalina Island, you'll find plenty to see and do. Rent a golf cart to get around Avalon and Two Harbors, and discover a restaurant, hotel, and general store in the main town of Avalon. You can stay in either town, but Two Harbors makes for a good base if you want to visit the island by boat, kayak, bike, or hike.
It's more relaxing in Two Harbors, while there are more dining options and hotels in Avalon. It is possible to relax on the beach or enjoy some delicious cocktails in a cabana at Descanso Beach Club.
It's a great time to go because the temperatures are still warm, and you'll avoid massive crowds in the spring and fall. It is a good idea to plan your trip for April through May or September through October. In winter, temperatures range between 45 and 59 degrees each day.
