THIS LOCALS' GUIDE TO LA JOLLA, CA: THINGS TO DO, RESTAURANTS & HOTELS

Pure Water, San Diego's plan for local water - We Build Value

This is the ultimate guide for things to do, restaurants, and hotels in La Jolla, California by a local

There's a coastal town near our lovely San Diego that'll be busy rain or shine, La Jolla. It offers everything from fine art to world-class golf courses to luxury boutiques and kayaking around caves to hiking along the stunning coastline in La Jolla.

In spite of the fact that La Jolla is much smaller than San Diego, it can still be difficult to choose what to see and do. Almost all of La Jolla's businesses are small, whether they are restaurants, coffee shops, San Diego clothing stores, or groceries.

No matter whether you are coming here as a day trip from San Diego or planning to stay all the time, you can get all the information you need what to do, where to stay, and what to eat in La Jolla.

LA JOLLA VILLAGE

There are many small businesses waiting to be explored in this area, as well as some spectacular-looking houses. Due to La Jolla's high prices, the buildings can get quite elaborate and interesting to view.

Whenever I go to La Jolla Village, I enjoy picking up snacks from the local shops and browsing the boutique windows. In the village from time to time, you'll see the festivals that happen during some common holidays. It's truly special to see and experience those, and to see the ocean from there is even more spectacular!

My recommendation is this La Jolla Walking Tour with a local who will show you the most picturesque spots and share a little history of the city.

CHILDRENS POOL

This is not actually a pool, and it's definitely not intended for children. Seals of the harbor quickly took over the small sandy area which was originally meant to be a children's pool.

It is because of this that the community developed an observation area where you can watch seals as they come and go. It is best to observe peacefully while eating. In addition, I suggest you go early or late to avoid the bigger crowds and enjoy the sound of the ocean.

KAYAKING IN LA JOLLA, CALIFORNIA

On the cliff sides, you might notice quite a few little kayaks sloshing about. The sport of kayaking is very popular among both travelers and locals.

Kayaking La Jolla Caves

Kayaking companies located locally can help you learn and explore the sport. There are many caves scattered around the Pacific Ocean's La Jolla section that can be explored. Tours, tours in groups, or on your own. It's always fun, no matter how you do it!

A San Diego Go Pass includes admission to the Birch Aquarium.

There is something magical about watching a play while basking in the sun or scuba diving. There are more benefits to seeing a show at the La Jolla Playhouse than just having fun. As much power as they have, they use it to project the voices of artists whose voices deserve to be heard. Through art and performance, the playhouse aims to start hard conversations, educate, and make a difference for BIPOC.

A non-profit theatre, they support local artists as they develop their skills. Their transparency is extremely admirable. Check out a few shows, I highly recommend it. The site offers tickets for upcoming shows and performances.

Museums and art galleries are two of my absolute favorite things. Museum of Contemporary Art is one of the really nice options in La Jolla for both.

In addition to featuring women-taught workshops and beautifully done art pieces, they will be focusing on women artists this year. Those unable to visit the museum can also view exhibits online.

It is impossible to see a museum or gallery in its entirety in one visit. Take the time to explore these beautiful pieces and lovely artists.

BEST LA JOLLA BEACHES

Among San Diego's beaches, La Jolla offers some of the best. A surfers' paradise and a family-friendly beach are both available here. My favorites are below.

LA JOLLA SHORES

La Jolla Shores is probably the best beach, according to locals. The beach is a popular one, one of the few hidden ones in the area. Long and wide, The Shore is a great place for families, kayakers, surfers, or sunbathers.
